Amber - Bull Mastiff X, Bitch (1 Year)

Post  F on Sat Nov 26, 2011 10:46 pm

Amber is a gentle young girl who loves everyone. Amber is playful, affectionate and gets on well with other dogs, although she can become excitable around dogs with a similar playful nature. For this reason we would prefer her to go to a home where there are no other dogs or a calm, submissive male dog.

She has no possessive issues and is very clean in the house. Amber loves to sit and gaze out of the window when travelling in the car and walks well on the lead. Amber loves a long walk in the countryside, however she is just as happy to curl up on the sofa for a nice big cuddle!

She sounds like the perfect dog, so why has she been returned after six months?

Amber

Amber is lovely to look after in the kennels...although not always happy when taken for a walk... and will stop and refuse to budge if she doesnt know the person well.....kennel life can do that to a dog.....but she has shown that when she is out of kennel situation ( In a home environment) she will gladly go for walks....Amber would be ideal for someone who has had previous dealings with this breed and is knowledgeable and experienced in predicting aggressive behaviour from one dog to another....Amber doesnt get on with all dogs...and would have no hesitation to bite another dog ..She has a strong prey drive....for this reason i would strongly recommend a home not only with the above kind of owner, but with no smaller dogs....As a companion to the right person/s Amber would be amazing...she is very gentle with people...(one of the best ive seen in here and never wavered from that since she came in..she is definetly a people dog x:)

So sad

Oh, I'm so sad that Amber has been returned, I thought she'd do fine as she was rehomed by Lisa. Such a shame.

My heart broke when I tried to take Amber out for a walk. She sat there shaking as though the outside world was a terrible place. She had already refused to go for a walk with another walker, but I was asked if I would like to try with her. I sat in her enclosure with her and slowly made our way to the door. She allowed me to close the kennel door but it took a good 10 minutes just to get 10 feet away from her bed. Eventually with a little trust and coaxing she made it into the lower paddock for a walk. Although I know her history is not good with other dogs, the oddest thing is that if she can follow another dog on a wlk then she is happy to keep going. Of course, when you are in the middle of a field and she stops to poop - by which time the other dog has gone ahead, Amber just sits in the middle of the field unsure of which way to object to going.

She is a beautiful dog and we had lots of cuddles in her kennel - she was an absolute darling.

beautiful amber

Post  elka on Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:49 pm

well amber was one of my first favorites at the kennel and so i decided she was the rescue dog for me...unfortunely she didnt get on well with one of my four dogs as i feel they both had high energy for play and i think they both thought they should be higher in the pack than each other and both being of bull breeds strong headed..with my other three dogs she was a dream as they are all lurcher types so they are taller than her but very calm and submissive, they enjoyed running freely with her and even bowled her over in a game of dog tig which she loved and just got back up and ran again...unfortunately dogs can be like people and not get on with every dog , i believe this could be true of amber therefore think rehoming her on her own or with a very submissive male dog would be very wise! i wouldnt hestitate to have her in my family if she didnt clash with my staffie bitch, she gave a lot of love and was very calm and gentle toward my teenage kids and didnt bother with the cat in the short time she was with me!

Broken Hearted

Post  Skye-maraner on Tue Nov 29, 2011 1:48 pm

It is safe to say I have thought of nothing else, and cried every day, since my family decided we could no longer keep Amber. You are right Ria, she really is the perfect dog on all accounts.

I would like to stress that Amber is NOT out and out aggressive to other dogs. On the contrary, she is actually quite a wuss when out on walks meeting other dogs. She loves to play with others and played beautifully with my little Bichon Frise boy. However, it was my Bichon bitch that caused all the problems, and although she came off worse because of her size, she was by no means the innocent party. She was constantly challenging Amber in the house and on two other occasions we forgave Amber for retaliating for that reason.

But after a particularly nasty altercation we had to come to the decision that it was no longer safe to keep her with Maisy. I breaks my heart to see her in kennels and I am still desperately trying to think of a way in which I can still give her a home... In the meantime, anyone wanting a funny, loving, cuddly companion please contact me.

Oh she never showed any signs of aggression when I tried to coax her out for a walk - it was when she saw other dogs close by that she actually wanted to come out of her kennel and plod along - not in an aggressive way at all - completely passive, almost indifferent.

Jules if you ever have any space... *hint hint* Wink

I am sure she would love Nibs and Sam... I have always thought that the stem of the trouble with Maisy was that she didn't want to play with Amber and it frustrated her (as well as Maisy having typical 'queen bee' little dog syndrome).

Amber had another dog give her grief when he got loose and headed to her door......she coped extremely well and never went back at the dog.....she is so well behaved in kennels....but she looks like a home dog who needs a home and not stuck in here.....Hope the right home comes along soon...This girl is playful, funny and very loving..

I wasn't good enough

Post  Jeanette on Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:49 pm

I was asked to walk Amber today and I couldn't even get her to come out of her kennell. She cowered and went straight into her basket, I tried treats but nothing was going to budge her, so upsetting. Later on my husband did coax her out nearly as far as the bench but very slowly and with the help of Sarah, (staff), this little lady is very particular and deserves a forever home that is forever, if you are reading this and are interested, take your time, think about everything, go visiting her, get to know her, eventually I am sure she will bond with just the right person.
